2015 International Women’s Day
- Details
March 8th is International Women’s Day; a day to reflect upon progress made, to call for change, and to celebrate acts of courage by women who have worked tirelessly to change and improve conditions and circumstances in their communities and countries.
Internationally, the theme of International Women’s Day 2015 is “Make It Happen”, which calls to bring equality for women in all areas and aspects of life, such as: greater recognition in arts; more women in senior leadership roles; the growth of women owned businesses; increased financial independence of women; more women in science, engineering, and technology; and for fairer recognition for women in sport.
Provincially, the theme for 2015 is “Influential Women—Agents of Change”. We will be hosting a luncheon in the later part of March to celebrate women all over, but especially those in Saskatchewan, who work hard every day to better the lives of women. We will be hosting a guest speaker at the luncheon, which will cost $10 for adults and $5 for students. The specific details of the luncheon are still TBD, so please check back on our website or Facebook page soon for further details.

On November 25, The Partners Against Violence Committee will launch their annual White Ribbon Campaign. The White Ribbon Campaign (WRC) is the largest effort in the world of men working to end violence against women. In over fifty-five countries, campaigns are led by both men and women, and the focus is on educating men and boys.
Wearing a white ribbon is a personal pledge to never commit, condone or remain silent about violence against women and girls. Wearing a white ribbon is a way of saying, "Our future has no violence against women."
In Moose Jaw, the ribbons will be available from November 25, which is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women until December 6, which is marked as the National Day of Remembrance & Action on Violence Against Women.
White Ribbons are available at the following locations around Moose Jaw: The Police Station, City Hall, The Yara Centre, The Chamber of Commerce, Royal Bank (downtown location), The Public Library, Crescent View Clinic, John Howard Society, Moose Jaw Multicultural Council, Hillcrest Church, and Saskatchewan Polytechnic. December 6 – National Day of Remembrance & Action on Violence Against Women
- Details
Since 1991, December 6th has officially been known as the National Day of Remembrance & Action on Violence Against Women in Canada. This December 6th marks the 25th Anniversary of the day when 14 female Engineering students were massacred at l'École Polytechnique de Montréal; this was a direct act to target women and to "fight feminism". In addition to remembering the lives of the 14 women who were taken much too early, December 6th is also an opportunity for Canadians to reflect on the occurrence of violence against women in our society.
The evening of December 6th at the Moose Jaw Public Library, Moose Jaw Transition House will be hosting a screening of the powerful documentary "It's a Girl", which discusses the question "why are 200 million girls 'missing'?" There will be refreshments and snacks for all to enjoy.
